Scott A. Muffly MD Fellowship Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon
Outpatient Total Joint Replacement

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

"My main role as a surgeon is to understand my patients' priorities and goals in order to provide them with comprehensive, evidence- based surgical and non-surgical treatment options to meet their needs. I strive toward shared decision-making and continuity of care to get my patients back on their feet."

Dr. Muffly specializes in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis, including total and partial knee replacement and total hip replacement. He is skilled in both the direct anterior and posterior approaches for total hip replacement, and has a particular interest in outpatient total joint replacement. Additionally, he has advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of failed and/or painful total joint replacements, including revision total hip and knee surgery.

Dr. Muffly's passion for orthopedics and total joint replacement stems from the privilege of developing long-term relationships with patients as he assists them with returning to the activities they once enjoyed. Having been an orthopedic patient himself, he understands the desire to regain an active lifestyle and finds joy and fulfillment in helping his patients achieve their goals. Dr. Muffly knows that not every patient needs or is ready for surgery, and works diligently with each patient to ensure an individualized treatment plan that best fits their needs.

A native of southeastern Kentucky, Dr. Muffly resides in Hampton Roads with his wife and two children. When not caring for patients, he enjoys distance running, cycling, and playing with his kids on the beach.
