Serving as a U.S. Navy orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Geoffrey Wright is intimately familiar with providing high quality orthopedic care in stressful environments. His 20-year career included a year-long deployment operating in Kuwait and an assignment as the flight surgeon for a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter squadron. Dr. Wright has made Hampton Roads home, having spent considerable time as a surgeon and faculty member at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He has dedicated his career to eliminating pain, increasing mobility and providing better quality of life for his patients.
Dr. Wright’s interest in orthopedics began as a teenager after experiencing a shoulder injury while rowing. His surgeon, also a rower, determined that physical therapy, not surgery, was the best treatment plan. Dr. Wright recovered and continued to row successfully for his time at the Naval Academy.
This experience helped form Dr. Wright’s medical philosophy, which is rooted in the continuity of care. Dr. Wright believes that surgeons have not only a responsibility to patients at the time of surgery, but through their entire preoperative evaluation, and through recovery to ensure they get the best care post-operatively as well.
A father of four, Dr. Wright and his wife have called Hampton Roads home for more than a decade. When he’s not treating patients, you can find him coaching on the sidelines of the soccer field, or involved in a scout meeting.

Hip and knee replacements have a very high rate of success. 90 percent of people who have a hip replacement get back to what they love to do. For knee replacements, that number is 80 percent – but even then, the 10-15 percent of people who experience some pain are glad they had surgery. This is due in part to the minimally invasive techniques surgeons can sometimes provide today, which help to minimize the impact on soft tissues.
