After graduating from Chesapeake's Great Bridge High School and
from the University of Virginia, Dr. Montero returned home to attend
Eastern Virginia Medical School. He then completed his family medicine
residency at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. A fellowship in
primary care sports medicine followed at the Ohio State University
where he worked with athletes of all levels. His experiences include
working with high schools, Otterbein College and several nationally
ranked Ohio State teams.
Dr.
Montero practices family medicine treating pediatrics through geriatrics
and his sports medicine training expands the variety of care already
offered by the center. Total athlete and primary care is offered
from pre-participation exams to treating acute injuries. Diagnosing
surgical and treating nonsurgical musculoskeletal injuries is an
integral part of his practice as are other sports related issues
such as asthma, diabetes, osteoporosis and amenorrhea. Exercise
is his favorite prescription.
An avid sports fan, especially all UVA sports, Dr. Montero enjoys
surfing, volleyball, running, swimming and cycling. He has participated
in mini triathlons, MS-150 and will someday run a marathon.
