Samuel I. Brown, MD

Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon; Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine; Specializing in Surgery of the Shoulder and Arthroscopic Surgery of the Shoulder and Knee

After completion of a BS degree at the University of Tennessee and MD degree at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Brown completed four years of residency training at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC; two years of general and thoracic surgery training followed by four years of orthopaedic surgical residency. A one-year fellowship in sports medicine followed at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Here Dr. Brown assisted Dr. Jobe et al with the care of their professional athletes including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, LA Rams (now in St. Louis), the LA Kings Hockey Team, and the jockeys at Hollywood Park Race Track.

Dr. Brown specializes in surgery of the shoulder and uses the techniques he learned from his teacher, world-renowned shoulder surgeon Dr. Frank Jobe. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, an elite international group of sports medicine-focused orthopaedic surgeons. He has presented research papers at national and international meetings.

His interests outside orthopaedics center around his wife, Rosemary, and two daughters, Nancye and Sarah. Swim practice, running, and church activities keep them completely occupied. Dr. Brown has been in practice 15 years. He is a serious Duke basketball fan/supporter without a doubt. He has run the Marine Corps Marathon twice (in 1995 and 2001) and treats many runners in his practice. Athletes of all ages are part of his daily routine.
