Growing up Dr. Samuel Brown was involved in all types of athletics, particularly football and basketball. Drawn toward what was then a “new” field of Orthopaedic Surgery called “Sports Medicine,” he graduated from the University of Tennessee, and earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. During General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgical residency training at Duke University Medical Center, he worked alongside Dr. Frank Bassett and the Duke basketball and football teams.

A one year fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles gave Dr. Brown an extraordinary opportunity to assist with the care of professional players like Oral Hershiser, Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It was here under the tutelage of another mentor, world renowned shoulder surgeon Dr. Frank Jobe, that Dr. Brown learned how best to treat professional athletes at the top of their game.

Since that time, Dr. Brown has become an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and has presented research papers at meetings across the country and around the world. Selected to be an Olympic Training Center medical director, he served in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center in the summer of 2003.

Dr. Brown’s experience with high profile athletes has helped make him an expert at the assessment and treatment of the physiological and psychological makeup of athletes of all types. He has maintained a broad spectrum of clinical practice and treats his patients with a “professional athlete” level of care regardless of their condition and need.
